Tianjin Port and Guangzhou Port join hands to build traffic axis

On July 16, Tianjin Port Group and Guangzhou Port Group initiated establishment of the China Domestic Trade Container Port and Shipping Service Alliance with well-known domestic shipping companies in the industry, and released the “Sea Express-FAST” brand. Tianjin Port Group, Guangzhou Port Group, Pan Asia Shipping, Zhonggu Shipping, Antong Holdings, Tradewind Shipping and other domestic shipping companies have joined forces to jointly innovate the port and shipping service “ecosphere” and create an upgraded version of the “two ports and one shipping” boutique route. They continue to strengthen coordination and linkage of ports in the north and south, tap potential of the north-south shipping channel, accelerate construction of transportation axis between the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao area, and better serve the new development pattern that is dominated by domestic large circulation while domestic and international dual circulation promote each other.

Innovative port and shipping service “ecosphere”

At the press conference, Chu Bin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Tianjin Port Group, released the “Sea Express-FAST” brand. At the same time, Jiao Guangjun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Tianjin Port Group, on behalf of the participating port and shipping companies, announced the “Joint Proposal of the China Domestic Trade Container Transport Port and Shipping Service Alliance to jointly build a maritime expressway and promote integration of North and South.” Tianjin Port Group, Guangzhou Port Group, Pan Asia Shipping, Zhonggu Shipping, Antong Holdings, and Tradewind Shipping jointly launched an initiative to witness the launch of the “Sea Express-FAST” brand.

Chu Bin said that in recent years, in the context of rapid development of the domestic shipping market in China, Guangzhou Port and Tianjin Port have become the largest domestic trade ports in the north and south, accounting for more than 30% of the domestic trade throughput. The average compound growth rate of the two ports have been higher than the overall national level in the past five years. Compared with the traditional shipping mode, core advantages of Tianjin Port Group’s “Sea Express-FAST” brand are fast ship speed, accurate schedule and high efficiency, and the average sea travel time is reduced by more than 10%. It strives to achieve “every day shift” and adopts a liner management model. It ensures ship schedule density and capacity scale, creates a “fixed-point schedule”, “punctual arrival and departure” boutique route, and establishes “new benchmark for China’s domestic trade container port and shipping services featuring Freight, Accuracy, Saving and Team. The “Sea Express-FAST” accurately meets individual needs of North-South logistics. At the same time, it can provide personalized services such as direct unloading, direct loading at arrival, green channel, centralized stacking, uninterrupted collection and unloading, etc., to reduce the turnaround time of goods in flight and in port, and realize the “zero waiting” goal of “pick up and leave” and “install and leave” for delivery of customers at the north and south ends.

Li Yibo, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Guangzhou Port Group, said that Tianjin Port and Guangzhou Port are integrated shipping hubs in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area respectively. They are important logistics nodes in China’s north-south transportation corridor. Coordinate development in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area has played an important and unique role in the national strategy of building the Greater Bay Area. The two ports echoed north and south, and continued to deepen port and shipping cooperation. Last year, 1.38 million TEUs of containers and 320,000 commercial vehicles were transported between the two ports, giving full play to strategic fulcrum of the internal circulation and making positive contributions to promoting North-South industrial cooperation, economic exchanges and regional development.

It is claimed that since the maiden voyage of the “Linyuan” vessel to Tianjin Port in May 1997, Tianjin Port and Guangzhou Port have been cooperating for 24 years. In August 2005, Tianjin Port and Guangzhou Port jointly launched the “Tianjin-Nansha” domestic trade boutique route, and the innovative concept of “Tianjin-Guangzhou Express Line” was born. In August 2010, Tianjin Port Group and Guangzhou Port Group signed a friendly cooperation agreement, which effectively promoted the win-win cooperation between ports in North and South. In August 2020, Tianjin Port and Guangzhou Port jointly organized a series of activities for the 15th Anniversary of the ‘Tianjin-Nansha’ Boutique Route, which further provides important support for the development of China’s north-south economic integration.

Creating China’s domestic trade, port and shipping service alliance

The joint initiative released this time puts forward that all domestic ports, shipping companies, logistics companies and other parties will join hands to coordinate advantages of all parties and jointly create a service alliance for China’s domestic trade, port and shipping. In order to meet domestic transportation needs and enhance the customer’s port and shipping service experience as the starting point, we will strengthen collaboration and innovate service models. According to actual needs of different regions, different types of goods, and different customers, we will coordinate factory shipments-port terminal loading and unloading-sea ship transportation- land-based warehousing and logistics-the entire process of all links including the final customer receiving goods are coordinated and linked. At the same time, we will comprehensively improve the efficiency of cargo seaside and landside circulation, innovatively introduce foreign trade liner management models, promote route network optimization and increase schedule density, and innovatively establish a standardized, efficient and personalized service system for port operations. We will also further build domestic trade containers “door-to-door” standardized transportation system to improve domestic customers’ recognition and experience of domestic trade container transportation in terms of economy, timeliness, convenience, stability, and environmental protection, and jointly build a “Sea Express-FAST” service brand.

At present, as a strategic resource in the domestic big circulation and the domestic and international dual circulation, the ports are further playing an important hub function of connecting sea and land transportation, and serving the industrial chain and supply chain.

According to reports, domestic trade container transportation is an important way to promote China’s expansion of domestic demand, build a complete distribution system in the north and south, and connect production, distribution, circulation, consumption and other links. It is crucial in strengthening core hubs, trunk lines, warehousing logistics, and distribution. Coordination plays an important role in improving the connection efficiency of various transportation modes of roads, railways, and waterways. In recent years, the domestic trade transportation market demand has continued to grow, and the supply structure has been continuously optimized, the scale of ship-type capacity expanded, the port service efficiency significantly improved, and the logistics supporting functions continuously improved. This has played a positive role in the development of China’s domestic container trade and the coordination of the north-south industrial chain and supply chain.
